Congo - Presidential 2021: Denis Sassou N'Guesso re-elected hands down!

Les Echos du Congo Brazzaville (Congo) reported that Congolese President Denis Sassou-Nguesso, Africa’s third-longest-serving President, has been re-elected with 88.5% of the vote. Opposition candidate and former Finance Minister Mathias Dzon has said he will file a petition to contest the results. 

Ethiopia’s PM acknowledges ‘atrocities’ in Tigray conflict 

The Nation (Nigeria) reported that Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed admitted that war crimes were committed during the military offensive in the country’s northern Tigray region.

Libya's eastern administration hands power to interim government

Africanews (pan-African) reported that Libya’s eastern administration has handed over power to a new executive led by Libyan interim Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah. This interim government is hoped to unify the country and steer it towards elections later this year.
