The Mo Ibrahim Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Watkinson as its Director of Communications.
In this new role, Robert will oversee communications across all aspects of the Foundation’s work to strengthen governance and leadership in Africa, as well as deepening the Foundation’s relationships with media and partners on the continent.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Robert was a Partner at Portland Communications, where he led its Global Impact practice, working with some of the world’s most respected foundations. He oversaw the agency’s work in Africa, including the establishment of its regional office in Kenya in 2009.
Mo Ibrahim, Founder and Chairman, said:
I am delighted to welcome Robert onboard. He is joining the Foundation at a critical time for Africa, when sound governance and high quality leadership are so important to tackle current challenges and unlock the continent’s potential. We are looking forward to drawing on his expertise as we expand the reach and impact of the Foundation’s work.
Robert Watkinson said:
It is a great honour to join an organisation that I have admired since its launch 15 years ago, both for its pioneering initiatives and its role as a champion for Africa. With the communications landscape on the continent evolving at an ever faster pace, I am excited about helping the Foundation find new ways to communicate and engage.
The Mo Ibrahim Foundation will hold its annual Ibrahim Governance Weekend, for the first time in a virtual format, from 3-5 June. The event includes the Ibrahim Forum, which will focus on new research from the Foundation – Africa and COVID-19: one year on.
