Pompeo’s visit to Sudan marks watershed for ex-Pariah state

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Sudan this week, meeting with Sudanese Prime Minister, Abdalla Hamdok, and Chairman of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman al-Burhan, reported Bloomberg (international). He is the most high-level US official to visit the country in over a decade. 

Mauritanian ex-president released after week-long police questioning 

Ahram Online (Egypt) reported that former Mauritanian President, Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz has been released by the Mauritanian Gendarmerie Nationale, following a week-long interrogation session over allegations of corruption and embezzlement. 

Presidential 2020: Alassane Ouattara submitted his candidacy

Ivorian President, Alassane Ouattara, has filed his candidacy for the upcoming Ivorian elections, despite constitutional limits limiting Presidents to two terms.
