The 2023 Ibrahim Forum discussions, supported by a Facts & Figures document, highlighted Africa’s weight in today’s world and in the current multilateral system, as well as shedding a light on the variety of partners’ presence and influence on the continent.

African Leadership Ceremony
Friday, 28 April
The ceremony celebrated in-person the 2020 Ibrahim Laureate President Mahamadou Issoufou, former president of Niger, and included key interventions on current challenges for African leadership.

Saturday, 29 April
The 2023 Ibrahim Forum discussions highlighted Africa’s weight in today’s world and in the current multilateral system, as well as shedding light on the variety of partners’ presence and influence on the continent.
The four sessions were punctuated by two one-to-one discussions, Mo in conversation with… Abdalla Hamdok, former prime minister of Sudan, and President William Ruto of Kenya.
2023 Ibrahim Forum highlights
Session 1 - Africa in the World: multiple assets
Focus: Africa’s weight in the world, highlighting the continent’s assets and potential, without downplaying challenges to overcome.
Session 2 - The World in Africa: a growing competition — state actors
Focus: the multiplicity of state actors engaging with the continent, their main areas of interest and various modes of engagement.
Session 3 - The World in Africa: a growing competition — non-state actors
Focus: the multiplicity of non-state actors engaging with the continent, their main areas of interest and various modes of engagement.
Session 4 - Africa in the multilateral architecture: where is its voice?
Focus: Africa’s place within the global governance architecture and the need and ways towards amending the current model.
Mo in conversation with... H.E. Abdalla Hamdok
A timely discussion covering the present conflict in Sudan, including historic roots of instability, and the conditions and prospects of solving the current crisis.
Mo in conversation with… H.E. William Ruto
Mo and President Ruto discussed the ongoing climate change debate - including the value of creating an efficient carbon market – as well as reforms to the multilateral architecture and processes.

Now Generation Network
Sunday, 30 April
The Foundation’s Now Generation Network (NGN) is a coalition of African experts, practitioners and advocates committed to moving the development agenda forward.
The Mo Ibrahim Foundation aims at ensuring NGN members are called upon and heard on several platforms within Africa and Internationally, including the IGW. This year, the NGN held a series of events for members following the main IGW events.
