NGN member Khalid Tinasti appointed to UN Expert Panel on global drug policy

NGN member Khalid Tinasti has been appointed to the new Expert Panel established by the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) to help shape recommendations for the 2029 global drug policy review. 

The multidisciplinary panel of 19 independent experts was created under a resolution adopted by the Commission to strengthen the implementation of the international drug control system and inform the review of global drug policy commitments scheduled for 2029. Its members were selected by the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, the United Nations Secretary-General, the International Narcotics Control Board and the World Health Organization. 

Tinasti, a policy expert from Morocco, joins specialists from across the world representing a broad range of expertise in public health, law, governance and international drug policy. Acting in their personal capacities, panel members are tasked with developing clear and actionable recommendations to support more effective implementation of the international drug control framework. 

The Expert Panel will conduct its work under the auspices of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, with support from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), ahead of the Commission's global review in 2029.
