New Africa-based event to promote the Ibrahim Index of African Governance

12 February, 2026

In November 2026 the Mo Ibrahim Foundation will release the 2026 dataset of the Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG), the most comprehensive dataset measuring governance performance and trends over the whole continent.

Going forward, the launch of each new iteration of the IIAG, published every two years and covering the previous decade, will be supported by a new Africa-based high-level event, with the exact date and location to be confirmed. This will provide African institutions, leaders, and partners with a moment to interrogate the findings, discuss policy implications, and help shape priorities for action. The new biennial IIAG event reinforces the critical importance of the Foundation’s data and analysis. It also reflects the longstanding conviction that there can be no sound governance without sound data.

Ibrahim Governance Weekend update

Parallel to this, the Ibrahim Governance Weekend (IGW) will now take place every two years, alternating with the IIAG launch. The next IGW will therefore be held in the spring of 2027. This edition will carry particular significance, as it will mark the Foundation’s twentieth anniversary. Date and location details will be provided later this year.

By alternating between the IIAG launch and the Ibrahim Governance Weekend, the Foundation will continue to host a major gathering in Africa every year, providing an annual platform for high-level dialogue and engagement on the continent.
