The Mo Ibrahim Foundation is deeply saddened by the passing of former Ibrahim Prize Committee member and Nobel Peace Prize winner, Marrti Ahtisaari.
Marrti Ahtisaari dedicated his life to delivering peace - helping to resolve some of the world’s most deeply entrenched and complex conflicts, from Kosovo to Indonesia. Throughout this time, he remained steadfast in his belief that peace was a matter of will and that all conflicts can be settled.
Following his career in Finnish politics, he become one of the original members of the Ibrahim Prize Committee in 2007 and served in the role for 11 years, supporting the Foundation in its mission to strengthen good governance and leadership across Africa.
His contribution to making the world a safer and more secure place will not be forgotten.
Our thoughts are with his family at this time.
