Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus elected Director General of the World Health Organisation

The Foundation wishes to convey its heartfelt congratulations to Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyseus, who will be the next Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO).

He will be the first African to head up the UN Agency, after winning the most votes from 186 member states.

Tedros previously served as both the Ethiopian Minister for Health (2005 to 2012), and Minister of Foreign Affairs (2012 to 2016). He was also appointed chairman of the board for the Global Fund to Fight Aids, TB and Malaria in 2009 for a two-year term.
