Mo Ibrahim Foundation postpones the 2014 Governance Weekend due to take place in Accra 21-23 November 2014
04 September, 2014
Following close consultation with the Ghanaian government, the Mo Ibrahim Foundation announces the postponement of the annual Governance Weekend, due to take place in Accra 21-23 November 2014.
The Ebola outbreak in the West African region over the past 5 months has led the Ghanaian government, in line with the ECOWAS Commission guidelines, to ask for a moratorium on all non-essential meetings and international conferences in Ghana.
It is critical that all efforts should be focused on dealing with this situation without any distraction.
The Foundation event includes various conferences and parallel meetings held by civil society and business groups, as well as public gatherings such as a public concert and a major football match. Considering the health risk involved, however minimal, it would be irresponsible of us to proceed.
Our Annual Event will be rescheduled in Accra early 2015. The date will be decided in consultation with the Ghanaian government.
