Catherine Gicheru

Catherine Gicheru is an International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) Knight Fellow. She founded the Africa Women Journalism Project (AWJP), an initiative dedicated to amplifying the voices of female journalists in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Gicheru led WanaData ('daughters of data'), a pan-African women’s data journalism network.

She serves on the board of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism, the board of directors of the Media Development Investment Fund. Gicheru was the first female news editor at the Nation Media Group. She is a recipient of the International Women's Media Foundation's Courage in Journalism Award.
