Vera Songwe, Ibrahim Index of African Governance (IIAG) Advisory Council Member, will serve as Executive Secretary of the Economic Commission on Africa (ECA).
Since 2015, Vera was the Regional Director Africa covering West and Central Africa for the International Finance Corporation. She is also non-resident Senior Fellow, The Brookings Institute: Global Development and Africa Growth Initiative. She is the first woman to ever serve in this role.
The Foundation wishes to convey its heartfelt congratulations to Vera Songwe and wish her the best of success in performing the important and responsible duties of her new role. The Foundation has had a long-standing partnership with the ECA through the Ibrahim Fellowship programme and we look forward to a continued working relationship with Vera Songwe in her new capacity as Head of ECA.
