Statement from the Mo Ibrahim Foundation Board Members on the situation in Sierra Leone and Democratic Republic of Congo

Our deepest thoughts are today with our brothers and sisters in Sierra Leone and Democratic Republic of Congo during this terrible mourning period.

These mudslide disasters, coming so shortly after the Ebola outbreak show, once again, that our continent’s leaders are constantly faced with serious and complex developmental challenges.

In Europe and in other parts of the world many people are understandably preoccupied with terrorist attacks. We hope this will not blind them to the multiple threats faced across Africa every day.

Let us not forget the thousands who have lost their lives, or their homes, due to these natural disasters.
